The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 偶像北野武不无聊一生开始于此。这不是彼得武自传而是徒弟对师父思念化成电影。柳乐优弥演技已出神入化看他演戏似乎就如在看年轻阿武那种不羁执著都演出来了。服化道营造昭和时代感满满不得不说最好时代遇到最对的人是有多重要

整部电影只有一场戏，张艺谋却用牛逼的调度拍的如此之精彩，多重视角的观察，两端的对峙，把有限的空间拉扯的无限大

太久太久没有看到这么好看的国产战争片了，前期没有太多的宣传加上春节档排片不多真的可惜了
情节编排基础好，即便剧本和视听有明显缺陷，成品也不会太差。比《红鳉鱼》好，只有展现出人物遇到的真正困难，回忆往昔才能有对比强烈的情感。现在还有几个艺人能做到不讨好主流，不讨好时代。柳乐优弥演得稍微有点过，希望他能再有一部主演的电影回到戛纳竞赛，我想最善于来事的戛纳不应该放过这个话题点。不懂就问，北野武九十年代才出车祸面瘫，柳乐优弥那么早就歪嘴的原因是？
轻、快、简、明（但是——面瘫是在其时年47岁的摩托车祸导致，并非片中自打年轻就有；至于僵硬的特效化妆，堪称诡异）。
比起长津湖系列的规模化生产，这部电影的运作思路显然更为清晰。得益于经典三一律的叙事框架，文本的发展线索能够被比较具体和详尽地展示给观影者，以至于段落之间的承接关系可以像经典戏剧的幕与幕那样分明。不过，这样的叙事结构多少有些过多取自戏剧的运行思路了，白芒雪地的交战阵线好似一个被专门划出的舞台，各个事件只需像”你方唱罢我登场”那般相继呈现即可。至于影像风格，尽管统摄全片的白色呼应了“冷枪冷炮”的背景基调，但却似乎不经意地多少抚平了或许更值得呼唤的现实主义的历史笔触，较之赤裸裸的黯淡状况，这里的美学显得有些失调。另外，特效化的子弹飞行画面是绝对的败笔，“冷枪冷炮”其实值得更为深沉的场景氛围，甚至”击杀”也应处在某种尚不确定的未知状态，子弹特效却轻浮地消解了这一切。最后，敌方的动机未免显得太过童稚。

这是一部很完整的电影，可以很明显得看出起承转合、前后呼应和必要的铺垫伏笔高潮。章宇演得很棒，张艺谋也担得起国师的名号。
